KOTA KINABALU: Kota Kinabalu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KKCCCI) President Datuk Michael Lui on Thursday hoped Australia would provide assistance to local Chinese type schools to upgrade their educational standards."Even though KKCCCI is a trade and industry organisation, we have also by tradition undertaken the historical mission of preservation and development of Chinese education.

"We have eight schools under KKCCCI, i.e. three Chinese kindergartens, four Chinese primary schools and one national-type Chinese secondary school.

"We therefore hope that Australia, particularly Victoria State Government and the private sector, can look into providing technical assistance to our schools, so as to upgrade the standard for academic excellence, providing technical training and information, paving the way for further college/university education in Australia."

Lui said this to a visiting Victorian State Government Business Office delegation headed by Australian Commissioner to Indonesia, Brett Stevens, who paid a courtesy call on him at the KKCCCI building here.

The delegation comprised Australian heads of significant investment migration, financial advisers, fund management heads and barristers and solicitors.

Lui added that the dialogue session will enable the Victorian delegation to promote their interests in the region with a focus on trade, investment, education and business and investment migration.

Towards this end, he was glad that they have turned their focus on Sabah, particularly the State Capital.

"The main objective of KKCCCI is to enable our members to promote the awareness and importance of participation in the commerce and industrial development in the context of on-going national economic development.

"With better understanding of the changes in the increasingly borderless transnational business environment, our business community must therefore break away from the old mindset.

"We are therefore obligated to lead our Chinese business community to participate in the commercial and industrial transformation. Therefore, we have consciously reinforced our relevant subcommittees to participate in various activities pertinent to the objective of economic transformation."

Lui said KKCCCI was always ready to focus and to promote Sabah internationally, on the world stage. "We therefore welcome our overseas visiting business investors, exploring the potentials of joint-venture business investments.

"You are most welcome to look at the win-win joint-venture propositions. Our chamber always acts as an important bridge crossing to promote Sabah's economic development potentials, especially investments in the tourism industry, and the oil and gas industry. We welcome you to look further and to bring forth your investments.

"Finally, I hope this dialogue session is an important beginning to enhance and promote better understanding on the issues of investment to our mutual interests."
