Hayati DzulkifliPAPAR: Head of State Tun Juhar Mahiruddin called on the people to respect and accept the diversity and uniqueness of Sabah, including the freedom of religion enjoyed here.

He advised the people not to touch on religious sensitivities that could ignite anger and prompt untoward incidents that could disrupt unity and peace.

"It is important to take note that Sabah will not progress if the multiracial society is not united and works as a team. In fact, all people in Sabah with different backgrounds and faiths play important roles to maintain the momentum of development in the State.

"We could live in harmony and peace by respecting each other's culture, faith and ethnic traditions which could also foster greater unity," he said, in his message at the State-level Maal Hijrah 1436H/2014M celebration at the multipurpose hall, here, Saturday.

He also presented the Tokoh Maal Hijrah Award 1436H/2014M to Datuk Mohamad Farid Linggi and the Saiyidatina Khadijah Award to Ustazah Saadiah Bte Salleh. Also present were Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman, State Cabinet and other officials.

Juhar called on the people to give priority to the need to stay united and be strong when facing negative influences and challenges.

In embracing the Islamic New Year of Hijrah 1436, he urged the people in the State to make efforts in maintaining peace and harmony as the main agenda to achieve the national transformation agenda.

Meanwhile, Musa urged Muslims in Sabah to embrace the Hijrah spirit as a way of empowering transformation to strengthen unity, reach consensus and achieve development to attain meaningful success.

He said the community must learn to be competitive economically and master sophisticated latest technologies as well as compete to ensure the people's well being and nation's development in facing the challenging globalisation era.

"Islam encourages Muslims to move forward to achieve excellence and development by emulating the spirit of Hijrah and make our Prophet Muhammad a good role model to follow so as to meet the goals of migration (Hijrah).

"This is because the Prophet had changed the world by creating a civilisation which was better than any other past civilisation. However the Prophet was still required to do proper planning of Hijrah and to seek Allah's blessing to realise the aspiration.

"In other words, Muslims need to make their own efforts and seek divine blessing when going for Hijrah or undertaking any positive transformation," he said.

To meet Hijrah goals, Musa said Muslims also need to transform their mindset and work culture so as boost their fighting and survival spirit in order to be the best they can.

In light of this, he said the government has and currently carrying out various transformation agenda including development of human capital to produce more quality, skillful and knowledgeable manpower through education and training.

This initiative, he said will increase the nation's productivity and encourage healthy competition as a catalyst for more discoveries and new innovations to towards generating a high-income economy.

"The aim of implementing the transformation agenda is to elevate the living standard and wellbeing of the people.
