Rape: Local jobless man given discharge

KOTA KINABALU: A 35-year-old self-employed local was given a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) from a charge of raping a 20-year-old woman seven years ago.Sessions Court Judge Indra Ayub made the DNAA order on Ramlan Ujud following an application from the prosecution to do so during the continuation of trial on Friday.Deputy Public Prosecutor Nartiah F. M Sambatan applied for the DNAA, saying there was a new development in the case and that she had received an instruction from Senior Federal Counsel to do so.

Ramlan allegedly raped the woman at 5.30pm on March 4, 2007 by the seaside in Kg Pintasan, Kota Belud.He was charged under Section 376 of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping, on conviction.The prosecution had already called two witnesses during the trial which began on July 21 this year.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
