KENINGAU: The District Council should take the cue from Paris, famous for its foliage, by encouraging its town dwellers and business operators to plant flowers instead of wasting money to pay contractors to keep the town beautiful.Bingkor Star Information Chief Henry Fung said the council could, in return, give incentives in the form of subsidies to those who took up the challenge.

"The current system benefits only a few people. Why not give the money to the citizens of this town to plant flowers. That's how they can show their love towards their own town," he said.

Meanwhile, Fung urged Keningau MP Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan to request the Federal government to repair the damaged Jambatan Bariawa near the tamu ground here.

"The cost of repair is not much, only about RM2.5million. The people had repeatedly asked the government to do something about it since it was damaged in the Greg Storm in 1999," he said.

Currently, a smaller bridge had been built near the original bridge but it can only be used by pedestrians.
