Tambunan clinch second at Mayor's Cup

Tambunan: Tambunan boxing team took home two gold, one silver and three bronze medals to clinch second place in the 60th Sabah Boxing Championship Kota Kinabalu City Mayor's Cup recently.The tournament saw the participation of 80 boxers from nine districts of Sabah, namely from Sandakan, Kota Kinabalu, Tawau, Beaufort, Keningau, Tuaran, Ranau, Penampang and Tambunan competed in Kota Kinabalu Community Hall.The achievement, however, brought mixed feelings surrounding the Tambunan Boxing team, when two boxers that were initially from Tambunan jumped ship and joined Team MMA Penampang at the last minute, without firstly informing the Tambunan Boxing Association. Tambunan Team Manager, Rosalind E Ikon said that the move by the duo had cost the Tambunan team the winning title for the tournament.

Meanwhile however, Tambunan Coach, Fabian Tonny Peter (pic) said he is ready to put all that had happened behind him."What is past is past, the experience is giving a lesson and hope that things like this will not happen again in the future otherwise, we will take legal Association action," he explained, adding that the team will continue to seek and guide other boxers for the preparation of the Sabah Games (Saga) 2015 in Tawau later this year.According to Fabian, the first gold medal obtained by Tambunan in the championship was through Stephenie Vung who competed in 52 kilogrammes beating Kota Belud's Magnali Sintim in the Women Category.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

"The team also collected a silver medal through the 56-kilogramme category, and three bronze medals through the 49, 52 and 64 kilogrammes categories," he explained.
