Kota Kinabalu: Motorists hoping the Coupon Parking System (CPS) which came into effect in January would revert to the former Ticket Parking System (TPS) can kiss such hopes goodbye.Mayor Datuk Abidin Madingkir on Tuesday said there are no immediate plans to review the CPS."You can see that we have only just implemented the system and we did not receive much grief on it.

Therefore, we are not going to review it for the moment."Madingkir, however, said there are still a few motorists who have not paid up their dues, adding these people were the ones who had not paid in years."They are used to not paying. Before with TPS many motorists could get away with not paying but they will eventually pay because at the end it is simpler to pay rather than get dragged to court."He said although they have yet to bring serious offenders to court, they are however listing the offenders and compiling evidence against them.

He added that compared to Sarawak where motorists have only 24 hours to settle their compounds, he said Sabah gave motorists a month to settle them.Furthermore, he said he has been receiving good feedback from motorists on the use of CPS as it keeps people more time conscious.

"It helps people manage time. Before they would go to town and stay for hours but now since the coupon system, they need to plan ahead."It also helped in ensuring parking spaces are not hogged by some motorists. Because of the coupons, people tend to leave within a few hours so other people are able to use the parking space."
