Kuala Lumpur: The Dewan Rakyat sitting this week was rather cool without much heated debates but the heat could be felt outside the house where the polemic on the hudud implementation in Kelantan stole the show.Based on the observation by Bernama, MPs particularly from PAS and the DAP had turned the Parliament lobby as the stage to state their respective stand on the implementation of the hudud in Kelantan.

In fact, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng on Tuesday aggravated the situation when he called on PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang to leave the opposition pact if he insisted on tabling the Private Member's Bill on the implementation of the Syariah Criminal Code II 1993 (Amendment 2015) or hudud in the Dewan Rakyat.

At his media conference in the Parliament lobby, Lim said Abdul Hadi's failure to seek the blessings and agreement of the opposition pact before submitting the notice on the motion for the Private Member's Bill, clearly showed that the PAS leader did not keep to his promise made earlier.

"If he (Abdul Hadi) wants to table the Bill, it's better that he leaves the PR ('Pakatan Rakyat' or Opposition Pact).

Because he had made a promise to PR that before tabling any motion he had to seek the blessings of all PR members," he said.

Lim's statement angered his partners from PAS including PAS central committee member Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz who, at the same time, also called on the DAP to leave the pact.

Nik Mohamad Abduh, who is also the MP for Pasir Mas, said it would be simpler if the DAP itself were to leave the opposition pact instead of using the hudud as an excuse to push out PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.

Subsequently, reporters on duty at the Parliament lobby were kept busy attending to press conferences, one after another, given by the MPs on the hudud issue.

These included the media conference given by Zairil Khir Johari (DAP-Bukit Bendera) to refute the PAS allegation that the polemic was deliberately raised to remove PAS from the opposition pact besides ousting Abdul Hadi who represents the ulama leadership in the party.

Meanwhile yesterday, Sabah DAP deputy chairman Stephen Wong Tien Fatt (DAP-Sandakan) said he would have a meeting with Sabah Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) on Monday to discuss the formation of Pakatan Rakyat Baharu (PRB) in the state after Labuan PAS decided to suspend any form of cooperation with the DAP following the dispute on the implementation of hudud among the opposition pact.

Throughout the four days of sitting, three bills were tabled namely the Supplementary Supply (2014) Bill 2015, the Public Sector Home Financing Board Bill 2015 and the Chemists (Amendment) Act 2015.

The House also passed the motion of thanks for the speech by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong after the debate by the MPs and winding up by all the ministries and the Prime Minister's Department which lasted 11 days.

The sitting next week will focus on the debate on the bills beginning with the Supplementary Supply (2014) Bill 2015. – Bernama
