Kota Kinabalu: City police will be conducting special operations to address traffic congestion in the Inanam area especially during peak hours as well as check the status of peddlers in the township and surrounding areas.City Deputy Police Chief Supt Azhar Hamin said such operations would be carried out following concerns raised by the Urban Development Committee (JKDB) for Inanam Township on the security and development in the area.

"We will give more focus on addressing the heavy traffic flow in Inanam especially monitoring mini buses that indiscriminately stop at any place to drop and pick their passengers after passing through the big roundabout.

"Our traffic officers would look into this problem, including watching out for the pirate taxis in the Inanam township," he said.

He said this when receiving a courtesy call by a JKDB Inanam Township group headed by its Chairman Datuk Andrew C. E. Lim, who is also the Kapitan Inanam at the Karamunsing police station, here, Tuesday.

Azhar said its traffic unit conducts regular "Ops Sapu" in the city area and the number of pirate taxis has since gone down.

"Next place we will focus in 'Ops Sapu' will be Inanam, soon," he said.

He said the Menggatal police officer-in-charge has been instructed to carry out regular night patrol in Inanam township, Inanam Taipan and Inanam Point due to several crimes happening there such as motorcycle thefts and snatch theft.

Azhar said an operation to check the status of many five-foot way peddlers and Tamu traders in Inanam area including the township would also be carried out to flush out illegal immigrants.

He also called on the committee and traders in Inanam to give full cooperation to the police and channel information on suspicious activities in the area.
