Kuala Lumpur: The Government is set to allow Bumiputeras to withdraw from the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) Account 1 savings to invest in Amanah Saham Bumiputera 2 (ASB2) in line in an effort to increase their corporate equity, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said. He said the scheme, which is one of the Bumiputera economic empowerment initiatives, would be subjected to minimum savings requirement.

He said Bumiputera economic empowerment would continue to be a national agenda as the community now made up 68 per cent of the country's population from 62 per cent 25 years ago.

"Thus, initiatives for Bumiputeras not only should be carried out, instead they must be implemented.

"The government will continue to fight for Bumiputera policies, but they must be based on meritocracy among Bumiputera," he said. Najib said if his speech when launching the Bumiputera Economic Empowerment Agenda in 2013 was anything to go by, the government was committed and aspired to meet the target of achieving the 30 per cent Bumiputera equity ownership by 2020.
