KOTA KINABALU: State Police Commissioner Datuk Omar Mammah reminded candidates for the upcoming Sandakan by-election to behave and carry out their campaigning activities accordingly.
Omar said police will not hesitate to take action against candidates or parties that cause trouble during the by-election so as to ensure peace and harmony.
“I urge contesting parties and candidates to maintain the peace and not raise provocative issues that would not cause disputes.
“I would also remind them not to raise any sensitive issues such as racial or seditious in nature as it is against the law and police will not hesitate to proceed with necessary investigations if the advice is not heeded.
“Candidates must respect each other and not damage other party’s banners or posters,” he told reporters at the Sabah Police Contingent Blood Donation Drive campaign in conjunction with the 212th Police Day, Tuesday.
Also present were State Deputy Police Commissioner Datuk Zaini Jass, Sabah Police Criminal Investigation Department Chief Jauteh Dikun, Sabah Police Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department Chief Supt Ahmad Jawila and City Police Chief ACP Habibi Majinji, among others.
Omar also assured more police personnel to the district to ensure peace and harmony is maintained.
“We will try to deploy as many (police officers) as we can for it is an instruction issued by the Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun to deploy 1,000 personnel.”
Meanwhile, the blood donation campaign jointly organised with Sabah Women and Children Hospital and Imago Shopping Mall collected 248 pints of blood.
