Chan removed as Labuan Ports Chairman
LABUAN: Sabah DAP Secretary cum Kota Kinabalu Member of Parliament Chan Fong Hin has been removed as Chairman of the Labuan Port Authority (LPA), effective April 1, by the Ministry of Transport.

Minister Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong notified Chan of the decision via a letter.

He said following the formation of a new government, all appointments in entities under the ministry were being reviewed. The Minister also thanked Chan for his services.

Chan was appointed to the position in February 2019, replacing MCA MP from Johor, Wee Teck Seng.

It was during Chan’s term that a request for proposal exercise was called by the Bintulu Port Authority for the management of the Labuan Liberty Port. The successful bidder was Straits Inter Logistics Bhd, which in turn appointed Labuan Megah Port Management Sdn Bhd to operate under a six-year contract.

Megah Port, of which Straits Inter Logistics Bhd has an 51 per cent stake, began its management of the port on April 1. The LPA comprises seven members, including the chairman. Among them are local Member of Parliament Datuk Rozman Isli and Labuan PKR Chief Simsudin Sidek.
