SANDAKAN: A male adult Proboscis Monkey had to be euthanised (put to sleep) due to severe injury and excessive bleeding from being hit by a vehicle at Mile 11, off Jalan Bambangan Seguntur, at 8am on Wednesday

According to Sandakan Wildlife Officer, Hussien Muin, they received a call on the incident from public who passed by the road. A Wildlife Rescuer Unit (WRU) team then sent the monkey to Sepilok Clinic. “During inspection, the monkey was too weak, sustained severe injuries on its leg and was facing excessive bleeding.

 “Chances of it living was very slim, so a decision for euthanasia was made to stop its misery,” he said. The public are reminded to be on alert and considerate to prevent such incident recurring. “The Sandakan Wildlife Department will put a warning signage to alert road users,” he said.
