Bid to smuggle in RM22,320 worth of fruits to Tawau foiled
Some of the seized items.
TAWAU: A local man was arrested by the Marine Police here while trying to smuggle in a number of fruits worth RM22,320 through the waters of CIQ Lama on Tuesday.

District Marine Police Operation Base Commanding Officer DSP Mohd Nazari Ismail said his team apprehended a boat carrying loads of fruits believed to be from Indonesia.

“Further inspection found wooden boxes containing various types of fruits such as mango, avacado and dragon fruit suspected to be brought into Malaysia from neighbouring countries,” he said.

According to him, the captain, 26, failed to provide any documents and permission letter from the Department of Agriculture to bring in the fruits.
