Four houses among destroyed in fires

KENINGAU: Four houses, a grocery store and a KRT building in Tenom, Sook, Tambunan and Keningau were destroyed in separate fire incidents on the eve of Chinese New Year and during the Chinese New Year celebrations.

Keningau Fire and Rescue Department Zone Chief Yuszaimi Hairrul Azwan Juatan said the fires occurred on January 30 and February 3.

In Tenom, a two-storey semi-permanent house in Kampung Uloi was razed early Thursday.

Yuszaimi said an 11-member team from the Tenom Fire and Rescue Station led by Operations Officer Mohd Zainal Sinsian rushed to the location some 2km away with machinery after receiving a call at 4.21am via MERS999.

He said the house was already 100 per cent burnt when the firefighters arrived. Also destroyed were two vehicles, a Proton Wira (30pc burnt) and a Daihatsu truck (10pc burnt).

In Sook, a semi-permanent house was destroyed in a fire on Tuesday evening (Feb 2) in Kampung Simbuan Tulid.

In Tambunan, the fire involved a grocery store in Kampung Pomotodon. A 15-member team from the Tambunan Fire and Rescue Station led by Desmond Ak Micky @ Dominic rushed to the location with machinery after receiving a call at 1.15pm on Monday (January 31).

He said the store building was 100 per cent burnt.

In Keningau, a non-permanent KRT building in Kampung Pangas Ulu near SK Pangas Ulu was destroyed in a fire on Sunday night (January 30).
