Kota Kinabalu: City Hall (DBKK) has postponed all its upcoming events as the Covid-19 daily cases in Sabah breached the 1,000 mark on Saturday.Mayor Datuk Noorliza Awang Alip said the local authority had prepared various events for its 22nd-anniversary celebrations.
Among the planned activities for this month and March include dance competition, street soccer, football and badminton championships, expeditions on Sungai Darau and Tambuyukon mountain, orchids exhibition, and Scavenger Hunt, among others. Also affected is the much-awaited KK City Half Marathon, which is scheduled to be held on Feb 27.
Co-organised with Kinabalu Running Club, the event only limits 200 runners with a fee of RM227 per person.
“Taking into account the drastic increase of Covid-19 cases among the community, all events in conjunction with the 22nd Kota Kinabalu city anniversary will be postponed immediately until the situation improves.
“This measure is being taken to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and to prioritise the wellbeing of the community,” she said in a statement.
Sabah Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the cases in the State Saturday rose to 1,205 from 909 on Friday.
