LABUAN: The Labuan Chinese Chamber of Commerce welcomed the decision by the Federal Territories (FT) Minister to revive Labuan’s once lucrative barter trade with Southern Philippines, saying this was much awaited and a “definite boost” to the local economy. Its Chairman Datuk Wong Kii Yii said although the trade had stopped over the years due to restrictive regulations, it could be effectively revived, as old ties with the Southern Philippines counterparts remain.

He said if the trade could be revived to the former scale as before, the authorities need to change their views about the trade and remove impediments and hassles in order for the trade to blossom.
