Kota Kinabalu: Marlin X and Deevin Development were crowned men’s and women’s champions in the just-concluded 2022 Carino Proving Grounds Basketball Open tournament held at the Infinity Sports Arena in Kingfisher here from June 17-July 3.

Marlin X defeated team Best Buy 69-62 in the final to take the top prize while in third place were Juta Bayu with a 79-57 victory over Roosters Basketball Academy in the play-off.

A total of 15 teams took part in the men’s category while only four in the women’s category, with Deevin Development topping the final table standing with a perfect record followed by Ujana Kingfisher in second place.

Kevin Chu of Marlin X and Yew yee Fan of Deevin also won the best men’s and women’s player awards  respectively.

The tournament was hosted by Putatan Basketball Association, with Ararat Sport as the main sponsor.

The closing ceremony was officiated by Ararat Sports director Brandon Wong and also present were Sabah Basketball Association president Phan Chee Yong and  Putatan Basketball Association chairman Tai Ket Hau.
