Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Muay Thai Association has set a three-gold medal target for its athletes at the National Youth Muay Thai Championship scheduled to start on Friday (July 15) in Kuantan, Pahang.
They will be represented by Areen Khan Shazam (48kg), Shah Aryan Shazam (51kg), Wesley Oliver Dulamit (57kg), Kallen Jafili (63.5kg), Kenny Jafili (71kg) in the men’s category and Vireen Teo (48kg) and Eva Anastasia Warren (51kg) in the women’s category.
President Nazri Abd Razak said on Wednesday that they also include Thien Zhi Cheng, Dariss Muzamiel, Myra Arina Roslan and Yan Jia Chi who will take part in the Mae Mai Muay Thai event with Mardiana Maulana as coach.
According to him, the competition is to prepare the athletes for the coming Kuala Lumpur Sukma Games in September where Mae Mai will be making its debut.
“The athletes have gone through a week of training at the Tamparuli Fight camp under coaches Cyrille Dhillon Tahing, Vallerio Fernandez and Ranjit Singh Maan before their departure this morning,” he said.
