Kota Kinabalu: A total of 147 Papar-based pupils from SK Lingan and SK Cheng Ming benefited from Rotary Club of Likas Bay’s (RCLB) “10,000 Smiles Project”, recently.
The project was part of a national programme by Yayasan Kelab-Kelab Rotary Malaysia which was simultaneously launched nationwide, including Districts 3300 and 3310, respectively.
The B40 students received new school bags with stationery and dictionaries, totalling RM20,000 and courtesy of RCLB members.
President of RCLB, Mathilda Mah, led the entourage. They were accompanied by Past District Governor (PDG) Phillip Chong and other members.
The headmaster of SK Lingan, Awang Roslee bin Awang Damit, expressed his gratitude for the assistance.
Audrey Koh, one of the members, said while SK Lingan received 55 bags, SK Cheng Ming received 92 bags.
“We are thankful that the bags, which cost RM75 each, are of good quality. Apart from stationery, each student also received a bilingual dictionary, which I believe is important for their studies,” said Audrey.
The students were also exposed to environmental awareness, with the club introducing the issue of single-use plastics.
The club plans to visit other schools in Tambunan and a few other districts in the near future.
