Kota Kinabalu: Three years of commitment and hard work finally paid off for Jenny Gnuline Fredoline George Jinawat as she bagged a gold medal at the 2nd Sabah State Level Taekwondo Carnival Championship held at the Ranau Sports Complex from Jan 17 to 20.
The 13-year-old SK Puun Tunoh Penampang student representing Beaufort Taekwondo Club Kampung Terawi Penampang captured the Girls 12-14 Fin title in the four-day competition.
Originally from Kampung Botung Kandazon, Penampang, Jenny who has been training under coach Ezyrol Bin Syafiq @ Joy Peter for the past three years was proud of her achievement and determined to seek more success in the higher level.
She contributed her breakthrough to the support and encouragement given by her father Fredoline, who was a former boxer and martial arts athlete.
She also hopes more sponsors will come forward to assist the club in providing the equipment needed for training and competition following their success in winning a total of three golds, one silver and three bronzes.
The other gold medal winners were Isabelle Chloe Sorman (9-11/Welter) and Siti Fatiha Safwa Basius (12-14/Welter), while the silver was delivered by Gwenn Florian Jipony (9-11/Middle) and the bronze medals came from Nurul Aqilah Qaisarah Shahryil (9-11/Bantam), Vincent Shannon Voo (12-14/Bantam) and McDeo Benth Decampo (12-14/Feather).
