LAHAD DATU: Tungku Star Sabah Division Chief Suling Isib called for stern action against contractors who fail to comply with directives resulting in road damages.
He said their irresponsible actions not only caused losses but also burdened and inconvenienced road users.
“It tarnishes the image of administrators, including the government, in the eyes of the public and other parties,” he said.
He said he met Public Works Department staff at Jalan Kg Ulu Teburi on Tuesday to inform that the road should not be paved during rainy weather.
“However, the contractor continued with road paving while the road was still wet and waterlogged and weather conditions indicated impending rain,” he said.
This would mean more money for the contractor who would have to do it all over again later.
He said stern action must be taken against such contractors, such as contract termination to teach other a lesson.
“Work must be carried out correctly and properly so that it benefits everyone. Do not do work that only profits the contractor but disadvantages the people,” he said.
