Club X Selangor and Thulanut Thunders bag top honours

Kota Kinabalu: Club X Selangor and Thulanut Thunders won top honours at the 4th Mimpaagat Borneo International 7s Veteran Football tournament held at the Penampang Sports Complex over the weekend.

Club V Selangor clinched the Grandmasters 55s division’s trophy with a sudden-death penalty win over Sigah Penampang in the final following a 3-3 stalemate in the shoot-out after the match ended goalless at full time.

Joint third place went to Permata Hijau of Brunei and Inter Reds FC, while the Plate title went to Mimpaagat Classico followed by Sarayo Legend with Brunei Wanderers and Borneo 13B Legends in joint third place.

Thulanut Thunders’ players pose with their trophy.Top scorer of the division went to Ramles Sari of King Utd Sarawak with 13 goals, and Fair Play was awarded to Klang Star Selangor.

In the Masters 45s division’s final, Thulanut Thunders was the winner over Noibu FC, while joint third place went to Tiger FC and Mimpaagat Nabahu.

In the Plate division, the title was won by Klang Star Selangor and in second place was Inter Reds FC while Azam FT Brunei and Pogun Savat settled for joint third place.

Maidinsa Gani of Klang Star Selangor was the top scorer in the division with nine  goals, and the Fair play award also went to Klang Star Selangor.

A total of 21 teams took part in the tournament organised by Mimpaagat Tokou Sabah Recreation Club held to promote sports tourism and healthy activities as well as fostering friendships among veteran footballers from as far as Brunei, Singapore, Peninsula Malaysia and Sarawak.

Tournament director Eddy Limbang said all the participating teams were treated with a carnival atmosphere including a welcoming dinner featuring cultural and live band performances at Buhavan Square.

Meanwhile, the prizes were presented by Club Chairman Aloysius Wong and Club’s Advisor Datuk Robert Stidi.
