Kota Kinabalu: Residents in the State Capital are urged to submit applications for minor development projects to their respective elected Assembly members, following discontinuation of the RM100,000 annual minor project grant for Nominated Assemblymen this year.
Former Chief Minister cum Nominated Assemblyman Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee said his office would continue to serve the people to the best of its ability despite the withdrawal of the allocation, which had previously been used to support small-scale infrastructure improvements.
“It is with a heavy heart that I must inform hopeful applicants, many of whom have been waiting since last year, that no minor project funds will be available for 2025.
“As such, any applications for infrastructure needs, including requests for bus stops, playground repairs, concrete drains, roof zincs, water tanks, poly pipes and other basic necessities, will be redirected to the relevant authorities such as City Hall (DBKK), Public Works Department (JKR), Rural Development Ministry and the Chief Minister’s Department,” he said in a statement, Tuesday.
Yong encouraged residents in need of urgent assistance to reach out to their area’s elected representatives who have each been allocated RM3 million to RM4 million for minor projects this year. This includes constituencies in Inanam, Likas, Api-Api, Luyang and Kepayan.
According to him, the same amount was allocated to each elected Assemblyman in 2023 and 2024.
He also noted that the Kota Kinabalu and Sepanggar MP, who are part of the Government, have access to federal allocations worth several million ringgit each.
For record, the RM100,000 minor project grant for Nominated Assemblyman was fully utilised in previous years — including RM50,000 in 2023 — for small-scale works such as the installation of a solar-powered bus stop at Jalan Damai, upgrades and repairs to playgrounds at Taman Likas and Taman Likas Jaya, as well as facilities at Dah Yeh Villa.
Other completed works included covered concrete drains and walkways at Likas Park and road repairs at Kg Kopungit. Water tanks, poly pipes, roof zincs and plywood were also distributed to flood and fire victims, as well as residents in areas such as Signal Hill, Fung Yi Ting/Dah Yeh Villa, Taman Keramat, Kg. Likas and Kg Unggun (Manggatal).
“All works were done according to DBKK’s specifications and the approved Bill of Quantities,” he said.
