Review Tenom HEP ops: Institute of Development Studies

BEAUFORT: Institute of Development Studies (IDS) Sabah Chairman Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun has called for a review of the Tenom-Pangi Hydroelectric Power Plant’s operations following repeated floods in the district.

She said the situation has become untenable, as every time there is prolonged heavy rain, floodgates at the plant are opened, causing the Padas River to overflow and inundate low-lying areas in Beaufort.

“When this happens, residents suffer and are forced to evacuate repeatedly. The mental and physical toll on the people is growing.

“Therefore, I urge the relevant authorities to monitor this situation, take appropriate action, and review the operations of the Tenom-Pangi Hydroelectric Power Plant to see what can be done,” she said.
