TENOM: A vibrant showcase of Lundayeh cultural performances marked the 19th Irau Kalimaran (Kalimaran Festival) here, enriching the celebration alongside the Murut community for the second time in the interior region.
Sabah Murut Association President Datuk Rubin Balang said the inclusion of traditional Lundayeh dances and songs strengthened cultural unity and community spirit.
He noted the similarities between Murut and Lundayeh customs, which added depth to the festival and captivated visitors with their shared cultural expressions.
Speaking at the Lundayeh song and dance competition in Kemabong, Rubin emphasised the importance of preserving heritage values amid changing times.
The 2025 edition of Irau Kalimaran, held from Aug 6-9 in Kemabong, gathered various Murut sub-groups and featured Lundayeh participation.
Festival highlights included traditional sports, cultural exhibitions, ethnic music and dance competitions, agency showcases, and food and clothing stalls.
Rubin, also Sedco Chairman and Kemabong assemblyman, encouraged youth to participate in the arts and entrepreneurship, while the festival’s official launch, themed "Ahahanggoi am Sumingkot" is set to be officiated by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor on Saturday.
