KOTA MARUDU: Firefighters battled a blaze at the Kampung Paka landfill here on Saturday morning.

The Fire and Rescue team arrived at the scene about 30 minutes after receiving the 8.43am distress call.

The fire, which covered an area of about two acres, was brought under control by 6.37pm with assistance from two excavators provided by the District Council.

No casualties were reported, and firefighters created firebreaks to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby areas.

The operation concluded at 8am on Sunday, with the Fire Department remaining on standby should the fire reignite.
