Jailed for stealing pickup truck
The offence under Section 379A(1) of the Penal Code carries a jail term of between one and seven years and a possible fine, on conviction.
Kota Kinabalu: A 48-year-old man was jailed 14 months by the Magistrate’s Court here for stealing a pickup truck last year.

Nor Zaleh Md Sipin pleaded guilty before Magistrate Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazali to stealing a Toyota Hilux belonging to one John Peter Otigil at 11.45am on June 12, 2025, along the Tambunan–Kota Kinabalu road near Kg Notoruss, Penampang.

The court heard from the prosecution that the complainant was driving the vehicle with his sister when their vehicle was hit by a Proton Saga driven by Nor Zaleh.

Police arrested Nor Zaleh on June 25, 2025, at 2.50pm at the Beaufort District Police Headquarters.

The court ordered the sentence to take effect from the date of his arrest.

In another case, a 66-year-old man was fined RM1,500 or one month’s jail for gambling in a public place.

Shin Thin Fook admitted to committing the offence at 9pm on Feb 10, this year, at a staircase area next to a 24-hour laundry at Beverly Hills Phase 2, Penampang.

The offence under Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 carries a fine of up to RM5,000, or a jail term of up to six months, or both, on conviction.

The prosecution informed the court that police detained Shin following information received and found him involved in unlicensed online gambling activities.

Items seized included a Vivo mobile phone, RM200 in cash, and a piece of paper containing login details.

Investigations revealed that the phone was used for online gambling activities.
