Putatan: MP Datuk Dr Marcus Mojigoh said the Federal Government should review the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and slash it by at least half as the current six per cent is really burdening the people."The GST is good for the nation but its implementation is not. I think the government servants (entrusted to implement the taxation) are not helping at all and this makes the people unhappy," he said.

"Even a bowl of sup tulang (bone soup) is charged with the GST. A very simple question that the people has been asking is will the price of goods increase with the implementation of GST but even this cannot be answered properly.

"This is adding to the woes of the people, especially so when Sabah's goods are already pricier than in Semenanjung," he said when met after closing the Fourth Edition of the Penampang 4x4 Challenge in Kampung Duvanson, here, Sunday.

On another note, Mojigoh was generally pleased with the 11th Malaysia Plan that was tabled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak last week because it had taken into account issues raised by the MPs from Sabah.

"We have raised issues affecting Sabah and Sabahans to the Prime Minister that need to be addressed," he said, adding that the authorities must listen to the voice of Sabahans.

It was imperative that the Federal Government addressed whatever issues raised and as the people's representatives from Sabah, he said, he was glad to note that steps had been taken to ensure Sabah people are not feeling left out or marginalised from the mainstream development.

"We don't want to hear any more complaints such as Sabah is being colonised (by Malaya)," he said.

On the Penampang 4X4, Mojigoh urged the State Government, particularly the Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun, to consider including the sports in the tourism calendar, in the bid to promote eco-tourism in the State.

Commending the organisers, he believed the event would spur greater interest among the people to venture into off-road event.
