Osca Warriors shine in Bali

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Osca Warriors Rugby Club won the Bali International 10's in Bali, Indonesia from Oct 10-11 by defeating the Southern Lion, an Australian rugby club.It was the club's first international title after been officially reformed last year but it was not an easy road to victory as during the pool matches, they had to face three other tough teams – Rowzy Pegassi from Australia, Jakarta Banteng (Indonesia) and Chili's Development (Australia).

The team lost their first pool game 7-15 to Jakarta Banteng where their players are mostly expatriates from Australia living in Bali.

Stunned with the defeat, the Warriors bounce back where they thrashed Chili's Development 33-0 before trouncing Rowzy Pegasi with another clean score of 22-0.

In the last eight, the Warriors defeated another expatriate team, Bali Chilis, with a 22-0 score, while in the semis, they had an encounter with UPM Serdang Angels with a lineup of mostly Malaysian national ruggers. The game had to be played until the extras as both team were tied 7-7 before the Warriors eventually won the match with a 14-7 score.

In the final, Warriors was in a showdown with the renowned Australian club Southern Lions which was also the favourite and the crowd's choice, but up against all the odds, the Warriors splendidly won the game 10-0.

To make things nicer, the match's Most Valuable Player was awarded to the whole squad and team manager Mohd Ekhwan Ngadiran dedicated the victory to club president Benjamin Nair.
