Kuching: Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein on Saturday warned contractors and suppliers of the ministry's and Malaysian Armed Forces' (ATM) Jiwa Murni Programme not to take advantage to rake in huge profit by raising the price of construction materials during the current economic uncertainty. "We will identify the suppliers and contractors who took advantage of the situation to rake in huge profit during this difficult time, but once the situation returned to normal, we will only recognise those who have been with us today for this Jiwa Murni Programme."

He said this after the house presentation ceremony under the Blue Ocean Strategy in Kampung Sikog, Jalan Puncak Borneo, about 22km from here, Saturday.

Hishammuddin also praised the quality of houses built by the ATM under the Jiwa Murni Programme.

He said he would also consider the request made by Sarawak Public Health Assistant Minister Datuk Dr Jerip Susil for additional allocation to build more houses for widows of ATM personnel in the State.

Hishammuddin said the ministry would not compromise in matters concerning the wellbeing and socio-economic status of ATM personnel and their family members.

In fact, he said the ministry was also trying to create job opportunities for children of ATM personnel.

However, he said for the programme to succeed, the ministry would need the cooperation from all quarters, including ex-servicemen and veterans associations.

At the same time, the Minister also lauded the extraordinary spirit displayed by Sarawak ATM Veterans Association in helping to ensure the wellbeing of its members and their families.
