Penampang: District Officer Luvita Koisun has assured that the planned night market in Donggongon to make the township a happening place will still go ahead."We're still pursuing the idea to attract tourists to Penampang, especially Donggongon," she said during the Penampang District Council's 58th anniversary celebration, Tuesday.

At the moment she said the District Council is still in the process of studying all the proposals after which the matter will be further discussed in detail next month.

She also said that a few locations have been identified as potential site for the night market.

The night market idea was disclosed by Luvita last month as another tourist attraction in the district as well as stimulate growth of the local economy.

She had reasoned that as a district that is near to the city centre, there should be no reason why Penampang should not be a place that tourists would want to visit.

She had also announced in July that plans were afoot to hold a Visit Penampang Year 2018 in an effort to bring the district to the fore of tourism growth in the State.

"The time has come for Penampang to be proactive in Sabah's tourism growth," said said after chairing the first meeting of the Penampang Tourism Action Council.

The council was established as the central body to create programmes and administer the Visit Penampang Year in 2018.

"The Kadazan Homeland" catchphrase was approved as the tagline for the Visit Penampang Year 2018.
