Man denies damaging office desk

Kota Kinabalu: A local man was charged at the Magistrate's Court here Monday with damaging an office desk worth RM848.Kung Kee Vui, 52, pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to committing mischief which damaged the desk belonging to one Andy Loh at 10.30am on Oct 7 in an office at the Putatan Platinum building.

The court set Jan 4 for case management and released Kung on a bail of RM2,000 in two sureties.

Earlier, prosecuting officer Inspector Mohd Rasydan Jasni proposed bail at RM8,000 in two sureties.

Kung was charged under Section 427 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to two years or fine or both on conviction.

Meanwhile, the case of a Filipino charged with assaulting another man will be re-mentioned on Jan 4 pending the availability of the alleged victim's medical report.

Suhaili Akmat is accused of causing hurt to the man at 12.30am on Oct 4 in a café at Sembulan.

The prosecution applied for a new mention date for the alleged victim's medical report.

In the Sessions Court, five men were each jailed four months and ordered caned once for staying in the State illegally.

Herman Norjumaat, Mukim Alistar, Azmi Aim, Mirham Emmo and Jamal Marcus, aged between 21 and 33, pleaded guilty before Judge Azreena Aziz to committing the offence at separate locations here on Nov 27 and 29.

They were charged under Section 6(1)© of the Immigration Act 1959/63, which provides for a jail term of up to five years, or a fine of up to RM10,000, on conviction.
