Vinales sets the pace in pre-season testing at Sepang circuit

SEPANG: Movistar Yamaha MotoGP riders Maverick Vinales and Valentino Rossi continued to blaze the Sepang Circuit on the final day of the first MotoGP pre-season winter testing, Wednesday.Despite challenging track conditions, Vinales topped the time sheet while seven time premier class (600cc and MotoGP) world champion, Rossi finished in fifth place.The team's new signing, Vinales clocked the fastest lap time of one minute 59.368 seconds on his 40th of 72 laps completed in Wednesday's session.

His best lap time stood as the fastest lap time recorded in the combined timesheet after the completion of the three-day official test at the Sepang Circuit while Rossi seemed happy to clock a below two minute time on the final day. He recorded 1:59.589s in his 50th of 62 laps done, which is only 0.221s behind his teammate.
Reigning champion Marc Marquez (Spain) of Repsol Honda Team was in second place and last year's Malaysian MotoGP champion Andrea Dovizioso of Ducati Team finished third after posting 1:59.506s and 1:59.553s respectively.The dry track condition enabled teams to make full use of the conditions to test their new machines and gather valuable information for the upcoming race season which starts on March 26, at the Losail Circuit in Qatar. – Bernama
