Johor: A sales promoter pleaded not guilty in the Traffic Magistrate's Court here Tuesday to a charge with reckless driving which resulted in the death of eight teenage boys last month.Sam Ke Ting, 21, made the plea after the charge was read out to her by a court interpreter before Magistrate Salina Omar.

The offence was allegedly committed at Jalan Lingkaran Dalam here at 3.20 am last Feb 18.

She was charged under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and faced an imprisonment for up to 10 years and fine of not more than RM20,000, as well as suspension of her driving licence, if found guilty.

Director of the Johor Prosecution Office, Roslan Mat Nor, who prosecuted, offered bail of RM15,000 as the case involved public interest.

However, the accused, represented by lawyers Faizal Mokhtar and Bustaman Menon, requested for the bail to be reduced to RM10,000 by taking into consideration Sam's family status.

Following which, the court set bail at RM10,000 with one surety and also ordered Sam to surrender her passport to the court, while her driving licence to be suspended, pending disposal of the case.

The court also set April 13 for case management. – Bernama
