Record 19 teams to battle for tennis honours

Kota Kinabalu: Team Hytech Blended from Kuala Lumpur will be looking to defend the title they won last year when the 10th edition of the 1Malaysia Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor Sabah Team Tennis Championship begins today (Friday).The three-day championship being held here sees a record 19 teams participating following the inclusion of Team Sunday Tennis SGCC. This year's number of teams surpasses previous editions including last year's 16.

The tournament which offers prize money of RM15,000 will see 5 categories being competed namely men, ages 25, 35- 45 & 55 and above while the ladies doubles will be age 35 & above.

Three venues will be used for the competition which are the Likas tennis courts, SGCC courts and Sutera Harbour Resort tennis courts.

Meanwhile, Sabah Tennis Association (STA) president Johnson Koh held the team managers meeting on Thursday to draw the teams into four round robin groups.

The participating teams are KK Frenz, KK Bugzzzs, Wilson Meerkats (KL), PTBS-Greensports (Kuching), BDLTA (Bintulu), PTKB (Kota Belud), Tennis Champs (KK), Morning Glory (KK), Kool Tennis (Singapore), Hytech Blended (KL), Hytech Single Malt (KL), Ace Tennis (Tawau), ILP (Sandakan), Likas 1GC, 1 Tennis (Tawau), Thunder Blaze (KK), Keningau Fox, Suria Powercat and Sunday Tennis SGCC.
