Trafficking in Filipinas: Trio to make defence

Kota Kinabalu: Two men and a woman were ordered to enter their defence on seven charges of trafficking seven Filipinas.Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz made the order for Bambie Amor Relloque, Esekoroboy Asing and Ng Vai Kwang after ruling that the prosecution had established a prima facie case against them.The court set Aug 29 - 30 for the trio's defence.

On the first to seventh count, the trio are accused of trafficking the Filipinas aged between 19 and 28, at 5.30pm on May 13, 2017 at a house in Jalan Kemajuan, Kg Parit in Labuan.The offence under Section 12/34 of the Anti-Trafficking-In Persons and Smuggling of the Migrants Act 2007 carries a jail term of up to 15 years and fine, on conviction.The prosecution had called six witnesses during the hearing.Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Khairuddin Idris conducted the prosecution while counsel Chin Tek Ming defended the trio.

The trio are currently released on bail.In the same court, a 26-year-old Pakistani was fined RM800 in default two months' jail for breaching the condition on his social visit pass.

Hassan Fazle Mabul, pleaded guilty to violating the condition on his document by running a shop in which the condition on his passport was not allowed to do so.He committed the offence at 2pm on July 28 this year at the Kedai Runcit Aziz Enterprise in Telipok Ria.During mitigation, counsel Azhier Farhan Arisin who represented Hassan asked for a fine only to be imposed on Hassan saying that he had a wife and a daughter who are currently in Pakistan.Azhier also told the court that it was Hassan's first offence and he regretted his wrongdoing.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
