Kuala Lumpur: The Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) is waiting for clarification from the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) on a news report that several national players have yet to receive prize money from various tournaments since January this year. Its Deputy Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong said the ministry needed to obtain details from the sport association before making any conclusion on the matter.

"It is only fair we get an explanation from them (BAM) but my advice to all sport associations is that we must honour our trust and responsibility as sport governing bodies in a transparent and fair manner. Do not have issues and complaints about finance and leakages. I am not saying BAM is wrong on this issue as we have to wait for their explanation," he said when asked to comment on a report in a news portal at Parliament lobby Wednesday.

Sim said the government is committed to making reforms and ensuring sports in the country continue to progress even though sports bodies and associations should also change including on governance.

The news report entitled 'Players blast BAM over money' said several national badminton players claimed that BAM has yet to hand over prize money amounting to more than RM100,000. – Bernama
