Kota Kinabalu: Rising local golf star, Jordan Mobijohn is expected return and defend his Sabah International Junior Masters title this year. However, Aretha Pan's title is now up for grabs as she has since turned professional since the last tournament in 2012.This year's Sabah International Junior Masters will be a three-in-one tournament, where players will also be vying for the SportExcel/HY/SGA Junior Golf Championship as the tournaments tee off on September 16-18 at the Sabah Golf and Country Club (SGCC), here.

Jordan's journey to once again take home the title will not be easy as top junior players in the country and neighbouring countries will be coming in strong bringing their A game with them to steal the title from Jordan.

However, Jordan is still favourite to claim the title as he recently won the SGCC Open championship, before he left for further studies the very same night.

Sabah International Junior Masters is expecting to see a total of 120 junior golfers from various countries especially around the region, the Sabah International Junior Masters will also be providing World Amateur Golf Ranking points.

Most of the players would be returning faces as most of them would be playing in the 100Plus Malaysian Junior Open, which will also be held in SGCC on September 11-13, right before the Sabah International Junior Masters.

According to Sabah Golf Association (SGA) President, Datuk George Bandusena, the Sabah International Junior Masters marks Sabah's achievements and its dedication towards promoting junior development in golf as well as the State tourism industry.

"We are proud to have some sponsors in the past years and their contributions has beyond any doubts helped immensely towards the development of junior golfers in Sabah and in the process have transformed some to take up professional golfing as a career.

"Among the participants we are expecting to fill up the 120 participations are from Peninsular Malaysia, Sarawak, Brunei, Singapore, Philippines, Taiwan and Korea while the Malaysian Golf Association (MGA) and Malaysia Ladies Golfers Association (Malga) is expected to send a strong contingent this year," said Bandusena during a press conference at SGCC, Tuesday.

He said that the last tournament was supposed to be held last year in Kudat, however, due to unforgiving weather conditions, the tournament had to be cancelled as even the grass could not be cut for over a week no thanks to the rain.

According to SGCC Captain, Peter Wong, the course is currently in its tip top condition as the club will be hosting not only the two major tournaments, but also several other international and professional tournaments including a Q-School (professional qualifying) at the end of this month.

"Even right now the course is at its absolute perfect condition and we are expecting to see the best game out of the players and we are excited to see how far the juniors in Sabah can go compared to players from other countries," he added.
