Kota Kinabalu: Pakatan NGO Pro BN will soon be suing Likas Assemblyman Junz Wong for allegedly creating fear that Kota Kinabalu is not safe for the public following a fake incident of a teenage girl being harmed and robbed at Suria Sabah Shopping Mall early January this year. Its President Zulkarnain Mahdar said the lawsuit would be filed against Wong for issuing statements in the social media network that caused a rising fear among the public on crimes here.

"We are calling on locals who felt fear as a result of Wong's statement on the fake incident to come forward and join us in filing the lawsuit against Wong.

"We believe the more the merrier (to sue Wong) so that the court can see how many people were adversely affected by Wong's statement about the teenage girl who claimed she was attacked from behind by an illegal immigrant who also tried to snatch her handbag.

Only later the girl admitted she had fabricated the incident to get attention from her parents.

"In addition, pictures of the teenage girl's two cuts on her hand and thigh had caused fear of crime in the city. For instance, myselfÉ I specifically prohibited my children from patronising Suria Sabah due to the fake incident," he said.

Zulkarnain said this to reporters after submitting a report to the Sabah Public Complaints Bureau under the Prime Minister's Department at the Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) at Karamunsing, here, Wednesday.

The bureau's director for Sabah, Georgie Abas, accepted the report.

He said locals who were affected in anyway by Wong's statement over the fake incident should contact him through his email at [email protected], before the NGO files the lawsuit.

So far, Zulkarnain said the NGO had gathered about 10 people to be in the lawsuit against Wong.

At the same time, he said he had challenged Wong to file a lawsuit against him (Zulkarnain) for highlighting Wong's role over the fake incident.

"I am looking forward to any action from Wong in this matter and challenge him to sue us (Pakatan Pro BN and him) as we are ready to face him (Wong) in the court," he said.

To a question, Zulkarnain said they submitted a report to the Sabah Public Complaints Bureau as they wanted the agency to look into the delay in bringing the case of Wong to the court.

He reiterated it is not that they do not trust the concerned authorities handling the case but they want to see concrete action being taken against Wong.

"This is because no firm decision has been made on the case since it happened early this year.

"We do not want youths to have a wrong perception that when a person makes a public apology as what had been done by Wong over the fake incident he could be exempted by the law," he said.
