PAPAR: Sabahans should be careful about what they read or see on the social network and not to be trapped by groups and individuals promoting false ideologies and lies with little fear of their real identities being found out. "Be careful and don't believe everything on Whatsapp, Facebook and the like. Don't be easily influenced. Some people use this alternate media to spread hatred, intolerance and insult other people's race or religion to sow discord for various reasons. Young people especially should be careful," said Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Secretary General, Datuk Johnny Mositun.

He said this after distributing rice, cooking oil and canned food provisions to 131 flood victims from Kampung Bungug, Kampung Titimbungon, Kampung Padawan and Kampung Sabandil here Wednesday.

On another note, the villagers told Mositun that their road links to the rest of the district had been cut off for three days from Oct. 9 to 11 when the Papar River overflowed its banks and ravaged more than a hundred acres of padi crops.

It also caused landslides that destroyed two house and severely damaged other properties.

Mositun said he would consult the Department of Irrigation and Drainage and the District Council over the frequent flooding in the area and see what mitigating measures could be taken to ease the burden of the villagers.

"I know this happens whenever the Papar River rises during heavy rains in the interior, and that every ten years or so we get a very severe flood like what happened about a week ago here," he said.

Mositun said the BN administration would do all it could do help the people in such situations while improving the infrastructure so that eventually the people would not have to suffer so much.

"But all this takes time and money. The BN administration is doing its best but the people should also be patient. There are people who will come with some gifts and assistance at such times pretending to sympathise with the victims but at the same time criticize and fault the BN government.

"Such people are only out to politicise the issue and exploit the people's suffering for their own ends. Don't be influenced by them," he told the villagers.

Mositun also expressed gratitude to the Member of Parliament, Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin and Pantai Manis State Assemblyman Datuk Abdul Rahim Ismail for the assistance they had given to the flood victims earlier.
