Kurup's reminder on unity

Kota Kinabalu: Sa'adah Hall in Wisma Muis was filled with Malaysians dressed in various ethnic outfits on Saturday evening, reflecting the diversity within our country, showcased at the Malam Integrasi Rukun Tetangga Sabah 2015.At the event, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Tan Sri Joseph Kurup announced that Sabah has a total of 888 Rukun Tetangga (RT), putting the State on the highest rank throughout Malaysia.Focusing on the mantra "Embracing unity as a way of life and celebrating our differences", he reminded Malaysians from Sabah, Sarawak and the peninsula to indulge in activities that could steer them towards unity. Hence, being part of a RT will have an immensely large impact on a person's life, as it aims to elevate their knowledge and inspire them to become better individuals.

Racial harmony, unity, patriotism, the spirit of volunteering and the ability to work as part of a team…these are among the vital points instilled during one's involvement, said Kurup.In relation to this, State Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Jainab Ayid added that to stay in a positive flow in terms of keeping the bond strong amongst each other, one should refrain from making hurtful comments, especially if one is a person of powerful influence."Steer away from negative or insensitive statements that could offend others.
