Five-acre Semporna site for fire victims
Semporna: The Government is in the process of preparing a five-acre site here to set up a temporary camp for the 2,500 victims of the fire that razed Kg Bangau-Bangau recently.Senallang Assemblyman, Datuk Seri Nasir Sakaran, said various facilities such as a building where cooking can be carried out, lavatories and other public amenities would also be prepared to meet the needs of the victims.

He said this to the media when visiting the site of the temporary settlement made up of tents.

According to him, more than 150 tents have already been set up.

The fire razed 260 houses in the village last week on Wednesday.

The victims are currently placed at the Semporna Community Hall, Semporna Youth Hall and the Bangau Bangau multi-purpose hall.

Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal, who is also Semporna Member of Parliament had said the destroyed homes would be rebuilt through funds from the National Security Council .

Meanwhile, District Officer Dr Chacho Bulah said the census is still on-going to ascertain the number of houses and residents that were really involved in the fire to ensure government aid is distributed fairly.
