Toll free complaint line set up

Kota Kinabalu: A 24-hour toll free number has been set up for consumers to complain about traders taking advantage of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) implementation by marking up the prices of goods. Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Hassan Malek said consumers can call the Anti-Profiteering Operation Centre at 1-800-866-800 in Putrajaya. Alternately, 03-888-26245, 03-888-26088 while for Sabah, consumers can call the local Operation Centre at 088-484 368.

"We do not want traders to use the implementation of GST as a reason to hike the prices of goods. "Consumers can complain to the centre any time regarding indiscriminate price hikes and prices charged beyond what has been stipulated in the guide book," he said. Consumers can also forward their questions and complaints to [email protected] or SMS to 15888 or contact the Customs Department toll number 1-300-888-500 (general line) or specific line for GST at 03-888-22627.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

Hassan Malek said consumers can also get the shoppers' guide book for free via the local Ministry office or download it from the website.

For the record, the Ministry has checked 591,294 premises nationwide under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 from Jan 15 to March 30.
