Man killed in Kolopis fire

Penampang: Sherell Ann JeffreyA 36-year-old disabled man was killed when fire broke out and damaged four wooden houses in Kg Soboong, Kolopis, here, Sunday. Acting Penampang Police Chief DSP Azmir Abd Razak identified the man as Zeron Kilong who stayed with his family.

He said a team went to the scene after being alerted at about 1.17am and fire and rescue personnel managed to stop the fire from spreading to other houses. "Preliminary information gathered from the fire and rescue team showed that a short circuit may have sparked the fire," he said.The man's charred remains have been sent for post mortem at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Meanwhile, State Fire and Rescue Department Public Relations Officer Mohd Affendy K. Ramin said 22 personnel from the Penampang Fire and Rescue Department led by its Operations Chief Muhammad Akramin rushed to the scene after receiving a call at about 1.16am.

Personnel and officers from the Kota Kinabalu Fire and Rescue Department were also there to assist. The fire was brought under control at about 1.43am.
