115 golfers to tee off at Labuan Amateur Open

Kota Kinabalu: One hundred and fifteen golfers will take part in this year's Labuan Amateur Open Golf championship to be held at the Labuan Golf Club (LGC) from August 25-27.Club President Arthur Kong said 96 will play in the men's category with 19 for the ladies.

"Last year's champion Safarudin Abidin from Sandakan Golf Club has confirmed his presence and he is expected to face a strong challenge from Lee Ka Tung from Sibu Golf Club and former Sukma gold medallist a Leduin Jordan Mobijohn.

The locals who may spring surprises are Kevin G Pius and Mohd Zariq Encho under LGC.

The absence of last year's ladies champion Jacqueline Nickles has opened the door for Song Eun A of Tawau Golf Club, Mirabel Ting from Miri Golf Club, Chung Nyuk Mee from Keningau Golf Club and Sandakan Golf Club's Nurul Syahirah Nasir for a shot at the title.

Meanwhile, four Hole-in-One prizes are on offer in the three-day event with a Honda BRV 7-seater sponsored by Labuan Automobile Sdn Bhd, a Perodua Bezza 1.3 X Auto sponsored by Kurnia AmGeneral Insurance Berhad and cash prizes of RM10,000 sponsored by Dato' Hung How Kiong and one set of 4WD tires sponsored by JH Bersatu. - GL Oh
