Threatening wife via WhatsApp
Kota Kinabalu: A 27-year-old man was charged at the Magistrate’s Court with threatening his wife last month.

Abie Madsirip was accused of criminally intimidating his 30-year-old wife via WhatsApp by threatening to burn her house, kill her and also cursed her between 12.38pm and 4.35pm on May 26 at the lobby of Sutera Avenue here.

However, no plea was taken from Abie, who appeared before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles via video conferencing.

The prosecution in applying for another mention date objected bail on the grounds that based on the charge, the prosecution worried that the accused may carry out his threats.

The court set June 14 for mention and ordered Abie to be remanded further.

Abie was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to seven years or fine, or both, on conviction.

In another case, a 31-year-old Filipino was charged with travelling from Manggatal to the city without reason during the Movement Control Order (MCO) 3.0.

Amirkan Mubin, an IMM13 holder, was accused of travelling from Kg. Pulutan in Manggatal to Kota Kinabalu without any reason at a police roadblock in Jalan Tuaran at 2.30am on June 1.

He allegedly violated Rule 4 (1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Regulations 2021 which is punishable under Rule 17 (1) of the same Regulations which provides a maximum fine of RM50,000 or imprisonment of up to six months, or both, on conviction.

No plea was recorded from Amirkan after the charge was read out to him via video conferencing.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Adibah Saiful Bahri in applying for another mention date objected bail on the grounds that the accused was not local and only holds IMM13 document.

The court set July 14 for mention and ordered Amirkan be further remanded.
