Blackout, so some patients moved to Queen Elizabeth Hospital 2
Kota Kinabalu: Some patients had to be transferred to Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) 2 following a power outage affecting the Twin Towers, a specialist clinic and an old medical building block at QEH 1 on Tuesday,

In a statement, Tuesday, State Health Director Datuk Dr Rose Nani Mudin said the power outage occurred at 11.54 am.

“The Sediafiat concession firm called Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) at 12.08 pm and a troubleshooting was carried out at 12.29 p.m. to determine the cause of the power outage,” she said.

Two existing generator sets at QEH provided electricity to the affected buildings during the power outage.

“QEH and the Sabah Health Department, as well as concessionaires, took immediate efforts to obtain additional generator sets to supplement the existing QEH generators. SESB Melawa, Sepanggar, Kota Kinabalu gave support with two portable generator sets,” she said.

She said  traffic cops aided in the delivery of the two generator sets to QEH by escorting the vehicles.

“A contingency plan has been implemented by shifting some patients to QEH II and surgical cases have also been relocated to QEH II to guarantee that treatment services at QEH are not impacted,” she said.

Except for the operating room, all wards and the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) had electricity by 8pm after two portable generator sets were turned on.

The SESB and the concession company are still working to fix the damaged cables.

“QEH and the Sabah Health Department will always protect the safety of all patients,” she said.
