Return to the basics: Yeo
Kota Kinabalu: The city marked its 16 anniversary on Tuesday with the raising of the city flag, a parade and pantomime, and a reminder to all City Hall staff to return to the basics of being responsive public officers to the Government and the people. The words of advice came from newly-appointed Mayor Datuk Yeo Boon Hai who credited the call to State Secretary Tan Sri Sukarti Wakiman.

"We must be responsive to the needs of the people. We must go back to basics. This includes rendering people friendly services and identifying who are our real clients.

"Knowing their wants and needs and assisting them in getting the services they require plus more friendlier, easier, quicker and accurate," he said, during the raising of city flag ceremony.

Also present was State Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Jainab Ahmad, directors of various government departments and others.

According to Yeo, City Hall needs to strengthen and improve all standard operating procedures to be more effective and this will involve revising all existing regulations, procedures and existing working processes.

He said the process of action at City Hall must involve communication, reporting, better enforcement, being systematic and integrated.

"All departments (in City Hall) must collaborate and work together and must do away with the culture of working in silo, as embedded under the National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS)," he said.

The four principal points of NBOS is positive impact, minimal cost, speedy execution and sustainable changes.

Earlier, Yeo witnessed a parade mounted by departments under City Hall, where visitors were also entertained by a pantomime by the marchers.

Meanwhile, several events are also scheduled to be held in conjunction with the city's 16th anniversary throughout the year, including the KK City Karate Cup, 11th International Sabah Open Dart Tournament, Litter Free City Run, KK City Tourism Treasure Hunt and others.
