Local employer among five held in Tawau operations

Tawau: Five people, including a local employer, were arrested in two separate operations on Monday and Tuesday which saw a total of 158 people rounded up for inspection.District Immigration Chief Noraini Rasi said her team launched Ops Ikrar (Ops Belanja/Ops Belanja/Ops Mahir) at five areas on Monday, leading to the arrest of the 22-year-old employer and a Filipino."During the operation, the team, which comprised eight personnel led by Mohd Sharifuddin Salim, inspected a supermarket, workshop, bakery and a hardware premises at Sin San Pasir Putih, Mile 2 and Mile 3, Jalan Apas where 48 people were inspected," she said.

The close to three hour operation ended about 7pm. On Tuesday, 10 enforcement agencies and departments led by Insp. Madesah Maznan rounded up a total of 110 people during an integrated operation which led to the arrest of three people without documents. The trio, including a woman, comprised one Indonesian and two Filipinos aged between 35 and 52. She said inspections were done on restaurants, stalls, bus station at the Mara building, Hill Top, Taman Semarak and Batu- Batu Sabindo from 9am to 11.30am.

She said investigations will be done under Section 6 (1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for illegally entering Malaysia, and the local employer under Section 55B of the same Act for hiring illegal workers.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

The operation involved the Immigration Department, police, General Operations Force, Labour Department, National Registration Department, Customs and the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism.

Also involved were the Tawau Municipal Council, Road Transport Department and Port and Harbour Department.
