Road upgrade rethink upsets Tenom villagers
TENOM: Some 3,000 people from five villages are upset that the Government has changed an original plan to upgrade a 24-kilometre road stretch here was substituted with another project. Speaking on behalf of the villagers, the JKKK Chairman for Kg Alutok, Marusin Paliton (pic) said the villagers are disappointed when the scheduled upgrade from Kg Kaang to Kuala Tomani did not materialise.

He said villagers from Kg Ulu Tomani, Kg Kaang, Kg Malutut, Kg Ahisal and Kg Alutok villagers have waited for the last 10 years in vain.

Instead, they claimed that the Public Works Department had carried out the upgrade of the Kuala Tomani to Kuala Tomani Scheme area, which was not as promised by past Barisan Nasional leaders, even during the elections.

"We are questioning why the plan has been changed. We do not want this being used by the opposition to blame the Government," he said.

A discussion was also held by the villagers with the contractors who were unaware of the original plan.

"We could no longer wait for the road to be upgraded. Now villagers have grown weary of the pledges made by the government during the elections and also from leaders," said Paliton who reminded the government to keep their promise.
